Carbon steel is an alloy of iron and carbon with a carbon content between 0.0218% and 2.11%. This material is also known as carbon steel. In addition to carbon and iron, carbon steel usually contains small amounts of silicon, manganese, sulfur, and phosphorus. In general, the higher the carbon content in carbon steel, the greater its hardness and strength, but its plasticity will be reduced.

According to different classification criteria, carbon steel can be divided into many types:

First of all, according to the different uses, carbon steel can be divided into carbon structural steel, carbon tool steel and free cutting structural steel three categories. Among them, carbon structural steel can be further divided into two types: engineering construction steel and machine manufacturing structural steel.

Secondly, according to the different smelting methods, carbon steel can be divided into two kinds of open-hearth steel and converter steel.

Third, according to the different deoxidation methods, carbon steel can be divided into boiling steel (F), killed steel (Z), semi-killed steel (b) and special killed steel (TZ).

In addition, according to the amount of carbon content, carbon steel can be divided into low carbon steel (carbon content less than or equal to 0.25%), medium carbon steel (carbon content between 0.25% and 0.6%), and high carbon steel (carbon content greater than 0.6%).

Finally, according to the quality of steel, carbon steel can be divided into ordinary carbon steel (higher phosphorus and sulfur content), high-quality carbon steel (lower phosphorus and sulfur content), senior high-quality steel (lower phosphorus and sulfur content) and extra high quality steel.
