First, what is carbon steel?
Carbon steel, referred to as carbon steel, is an iron-carbon alloy with a carbon content of less than 2.11%. It is basically composed of iron, carbon and limited amounts of silicon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur and other impurities, and does not contain other alloying elements. The properties of carbon steel are mainly affected by its carbon content. As the carbon content increases, the strength and hardness of the steel will increase, but its plasticity, toughness and weldability will decrease. Compared with other types of steel, carbon steel has the earliest use history, low cost, wide range of performance, and the largest amount. The carbon content of carbon steel used in industry usually does not exceed 1.4%, because when the carbon content exceeds this value, the steel will become very hard and fragile, difficult to process, and lose its production and use value. According to the different quality, carbon steel can be divided into ordinary carbon structural steel and high-quality carbon structural steel two categories. The allowable content of sulfur and phosphorus of high-quality carbon structural steel is lower than that of ordinary carbon steel, so its comprehensive mechanical properties are better than those of ordinary carbon steel.
Second, what are the main uses of carbon steel?
1. Q195 carbon steel is suitable for the manufacture of some smaller parts, iron wire, stamping parts and welding parts.
2. Q215A carbon steel is suitable for the production of gaskets, permeating rings, carburizing and other parts.
3. Q235AAB grade carbon steel is suitable for the manufacture of metal structural parts, hooks, couplings, bolts, nuts and sleeves, etc.
4. Grade C and D of Q235AA can be used for the manufacture of important welded structural parts.
5. Q225A carbon steel is often used to manufacture rotating shafts, mandrels, pull rods, etc.
6. Q275 is more suitable for high-strength parts, such as sprockets, gears, hooks and so on.
Third, what are the classification methods of carbon steel?
The main classification methods are as follows: First, it can be classified according to the different carbon content: carbon content of less than 0.25% is low carbon steel; Carbon content 0.25%-0.60% for medium carbon steel; Carbon content is generally greater than 0.60% for high carbon steel. Secondly, it is classified according to the quality of the steel: this is actually classified according to the different contents of harmful impurities S and P in the steel. Generally divided into: S content is less than 0.055%, P content is less than 0.045% for ordinary carbon steel; The S content is less than 0.045%, the P content is less than 0.040% for high-quality carbon steel; The S content is less than 0.030%, and the P content is less than 0.035%. In addition, carbon steel can also be classified according to the degree of deoxidation or use grade.
