Tool Steel Grades
Tool steel is divided into three categories: carbon tool steel, alloy tool steel, and high-speed tool steel.
–Carbon tool steels are expressed by standard chemical element symbols, prescribed symbols, and Arabic numerals. Arabic numerals indicate the average carbon content (in parts per thousand).
ordinary manganese content of carbon tool steel, in the tool steel symbol “T” after the Arabic numerals.
For example the average carbon content of 0.80% of the carbon tool steel, its grade is expressed as “T 8”.
b, higher manganese content of carbon tool steel, in the tool steel symbol “T” and Arabic numerals followed by the manganese element symbol. For example “T8Mn”.
c, high-quality carbon tool steel, at the end of the grade plus “A”. For example “T8MnA”.
–Alloy tool steel and high-speed tool steel
Alloy tool steel and high-speed tool steel grades are expressed in the same way as alloy structural steel grades.
The average carbon content of 0.85%, containing tungsten, molybdenum, chromium, vanadium content of 6.00%, 5.00%, 4.00%, 2.00% of high-speed tool steel, the grade is expressed as “W6Mo5Cr4V 2”.
If the average carbon content is less than 1.00%, an Arabic numeral can be used to indicate the carbon content (in parts per thousand). For example, alloyed tool steel with an average carbon content of 0.80%, manganese content of 0.95%, and silicon content of 0.45% is denoted by the grade “8MnSi”. Low chromium (average chromium content < 1.00%) alloy tool steels, the number “0” is added before the chromium content (in parts per thousand). For example, alloyed tool steel with an average chromium content of 0.60% would be designated as “Cr 06”.
Commonly Used Metal Material Grades
Plastic mold steel-grades
Plastic mold steel grade except in the head of the symbol “SM”, the rest of the expression and high-quality carbon structural steel and alloy tool steel grades expressed in the same way. For example the average carbon content of 0.45% of the carbon plastic mold steel, the grade is expressed as “SM 45”; average carbon content of 0.34%, the chromium content of 1.70%, the molybdenum content of 0.42% of the alloy plastic mold steel, the grade is expressed as “SM3Cr2Mo “.
Bearing steel-grades
Bearing steel is divided into four categories: high-carbon chromium bearing steel, carburized bearing steel, high-carbon chromium stainless bearing steel, and high-temperature bearing steel, etc.
–High-carbon chromium-bearing steel, the symbol “G” is added to the head of the grade, but the carbon content is not indicated. Chromium content in parts per thousand, other alloying elements according to the alloy content of alloy structural steel. For example the average chromium content of 1 □ 50% of the bearing steel, the grade said “GCR 15”.
–Carburized bearing steel, using the alloy structural steel grade method, another in the head of the grade plus the symbol “G”. For example: “G20 CrNiMo”. High-quality carburized bearing steel, add “A” at the end of the grade. For example: “G20CrNiMoA”.
–High-carbon chromium stainless bearing steel and high-temperature bearing steel, using stainless steel and heat-resistant steel grade representation, the head of the grade without the symbol “G”. For example high-carbon chromium stainless bearing steel “9Cr 18” and high-temperature bearing steel “10Cr14Mo”.
