In the first three quarters, the largest country in terms of direct reduced iron production remained India with 23.605 million tons, down 13.0% year-on-year, including 2.785 million tons in September, down 3.2% year-on-year. In the first three quarters, Iran’s direct reduced iron production was second only to India at 22.187 million tons, up 5.2% year-on-year, the largest increase in production among the 12 countries, however, its production in September is estimated to have dropped 12.9% year-on-year to 2.3 million tons. Egypt is one of the two countries other than Iran that achieved growth in direct reduced iron production in the first three quarters, with production up 1.4% year-on-year to 3.776 million tons and up a whopping 110.4% to 331,000 tons in September.

In the first three quarters, Canada’s direct reduced iron production was 766,000 tons, down 32.1% year-on-year, including production of 121,000 tons in September, down 17.3% year-on-year. In addition, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates and Libya produced 3.906 million tons, 3.742 million tons, 214,900 tons and 519,000 tons, down 13.4%, 16.8%, 21.2% and 13.9% year-on-year, respectively.
